Looking for anyone who can give me information about the Carl Riemann family in Germany. Wife's name was Henrietta. Carl brought his two 'youngest' sons, I am supposing, to Illinois in 1870 & bought a farm near Cowden and left them here and traveled back to Germany. Carl came again in 1873 with wife Henrietta and daughter Augusta to visit. Hugo was 16 when he came to the States and Richard was 14. Family rumor has it that Carl did not want his sons 'conscripted' into the German army, as at the time (pre-WWI) the Kaiser was fighting anybody and everybody in Europe. Who knows? Maybe He had lost other sons to the 'cause' and did not want this fate to befall his youngest sons. There is no trace in America of Carl, Henrietta, or Augusta. I am supposing they visited, then went back to Germany, never to see their sons & brother again.
Anyone with any information about where this family may have 'hailed' from in Germany, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know they had that kind of info on the European side. I will also try to locate that website. If I can find where they came from in Germany, then maybe I can hook-up with some distant relatives back there. I would love that.
